Cursillo is literally a "short course" in Christianity. The purpose and method of Cursillo is to help persons live what is fundamental for being a Christian by committing themselves to the spiritual aids the church offers in order to grow in holiness, formation and evangelization. The 72-hour “Cursillo Weekend” begins with a silent retreat on a Thursday evening and concludes Sunday afternoon. The Archdiocese of Newark sponsors separate Men's and Women's weekends twice yearly in the retreat house at St. Peter’s Parish in Belleville, NJ.
The Cursillo Method
Pope John Paul II, July 29, 2000
The Cursillo method aims at helping to transform, in a Christian way, the environments where people live and work through the involvement of "new men and women" who have become such from their encounter with Christ.
This is a goal of the three-day "little course" on Christianity; in which a team of priests and lay people, supported by the prayer and sacrifices of the movement's other members, communicate the fundamental truths of the Christian faith in an especially "living way."
